Framing
Protecting pastel artwork is very simple and really only involves proper framing techniques. The frame design must include a space between the artwork and the glass. This is accomplished with mats, framing space bars, or a cloth liner.
Since you have chosen to invest in original art, I strongly recommend using acid-free materials which will cost a little bit more, but this will help insure the life of the piece for generations.
I do not spray my pastels and would never recommend it. If your framer insists on it, then please take your painting and go somewhere else to have it framed.
I do not provide framing because shipping a framed piece to a client is actually more hazardous than shipping it unframed. I can give recommendations of excellent framers in your area and I will be happy to speak with your framer if they have any questions.
